Who knew felt faux taxidermy was so popular?

The second Drinking with Scissors proved to be very popular with fans of both crafts and beer, selling out in the first 15 minutes! So many enthusiastic makers showed up, the Social House ran out of chairs and people sat on the stage floor to get their craft on.

November’s projects were inspired by a cozy winter cabin in the woods, the quintessential Yukon experience. Participants chose from kits to make mini bear rug coasters or little wall-mounted felt deer and foxes.

The next Christmas edition of Drinking with Scissors is happening December 13th from 8pm to 11pm at the Social House (102 Wood Street). Be sure to show up early while kits and seats last!  Unfortunately the December Drinking with Scissors has been cancelled, but we have lots of fun things planned for January and February, so keep your eye on our events calendar.

Drinking with Scissors

YuKonstruct is hosting a fun night of crafts and craft beer at the Social House. The theme for this month is Winter Woodland. Kits with everything you need to make some awesome crafts will be available for $5.

Bring your friends for a great evening of drinking with scissors!

Halloween craft fun at Drinking with Scissors

What could be better than crafts and craft beer?

The first Drinking with Scissors event took place on October 25 at the Social House. With Halloween right around the corner, spooky craft kits were available for participants to assemble while enjoying drinks with friends.

There were kits for making cute mini pinatas (complete with candy and treats!) and kits to design a mini felt monster. Both were a big hit!

If you missed this month’s edition, fear not, Drinking with Scissors will be continuing as a monthly event.

Electronic Crafts on Canada Day

YuKonstruct took part in the City of Whitehorse’s Canada Day celebrations at Shipyards Park this year, with a fun all-ages workshop on electronic crafts. We brought some of our favourite LED craft kits to the event: electronic operation game, mini flashlights and LED flowers, as well as the always-popular squishy circuits (play dough and LEDs).

Samples of the LED crafts

Amid the fun festival atmosphere at the park, participants in the Kids Zone learned some basic electric circuits and assembled their crafts with assistance from YuKonstruct members.

All-ages Valentine’s Day Fun

Thank you to everyone who came out to our All-Ages Craft Night!

We had lots of fun making Valentine’s Day themed crafts. We had several kits available including little robot love bugs, stuffed monsters and valentine cards.

Makers of all ages enjoyed learning about simple electronics by trying one of the two love bug kits. One love bug kit made light up blinkybugs inspired by obeyken’s instructable. The other kit included a small vibrating motor so participants could design their own little vibrobots.

We also brought back some of our favourite kits from past craft nights, including LED flowers, make your own felt monster kits and glovetopus kits.

Valentine Cards with the Letter Writing Club

YuKonstruct hosted a Valentine’s Day card making night with the Letter Writing Club.

We had 7 different card kits for participants to choose from, from relatively simple to fairly complex, but the most popular ones, by far, were the kits containing LEDs to make light-up valentines. The circuit stickers that made the incredible cards possible were provide by Chibitronics.

There’s still time for you to get in on the card-making action! The Letter Writing Club will be at (co)space on February 3, with card kits and typewriters for writing out your love letters.

We’re also hosting an all-ages Valentines Day themed craft night on February 11 from 6pm to 9pm. There will be lots more fun crafts for you to make for your sweetie.

Step-by-step instructions for assembling your own amazing cards are available on Instructables.
