Cancelled: 3D Game Development After School Program for Teens

9 March 2020 @ 3:45 pm - 5:45 pm

Camps for video game design help foster team spirit and develop some basic skills needed for succeeding in the technology industry.  Game development camps offer the best hands-on experience in a supportive and fun environment. Students use the same software that designers use all over the world, providing a fun and educational introduction to game design and giving you the tools to start building your own game development portfolio.

CREATE YOUR OWN VIDEO GAMES using the same tools as professional game developers at the YuKonstruct makespace.

Design and create your own interactive games while learning industry-standard techniques to producing professional quality games to dazzle your friends!
In this course, you’ll learn how to create 3D levels with the Unreal Engine so you can utilize them in your own game. You will also learn to use the powerful UE4 Blueprint Visual Scripting System to bring life and interactivity to your world while learning some of the fundamentals of programming. You’ll also learn how to make different styles of games, including first person, adventure, side scroller, and racing games. You will use Unreal’s award winning level development tools to create and design your game levels, and populate them with lighting, particle effects, and even AI characters.
At the end of the course, you will take home your completed games, project files, and art assets home on a flash drive.
Class is 10 sessions, Mondays at 3:45-5:45, February 24th – May 18th, excluding March 16, March 23 and April 13. Ages 12-16.
About the software: Unreal Engine 4 is a suite of integrated tools developed by Epic Games for game developers to design and build games, and also has some practical uses in architecture and film. Used by many professional game development studios, it’s also free for students, hobbyists, and small businesses. Click this link to check out Rick’s first lesson on YouTube!
About the instructor: Rick spent ten years as a programmer, designer, and project manager at an indie game studio, working with a small team of artists and programmers on an engine built from scratch using nothing but C++, DirectX, and passion. His other passions include traditional woodworking, electronics, leather working, and chocolate making.
