YWITT Maker’s Club Presents: Sew-In LED Lights!
In the middle of winter’s darkest months, help your outfits light up a room! Join us for January’s YWITT Maker’s Club workshop, where we will learn about sewing LED lights onto textiles using conductive thread and other supplies. Whether you’re hoping to add some shine to an outfit for your next night out, or give a cozy evening item a warm glow, we can help you learn the basics!
The workshop will include introductions to sewable LED materials, the functioning of a simple circuit, basic hand-sewing techniques and considerations for different materials and uses.
All materials and equipment, including fabric samples, will be provided. Participants are also encouraged to bring items they want to sew lights onto or other fabric they have on hand.
YWITT Makers Club welcomes folks over 18 who self-identify as women, trans people, and anyone else whose gender is outside of the male/female gender binary.
This event is free and food will be provided. Maximum of 10 participants.
FAQ
1. What can I expect when I show up?
– You will show up to the Yukonstruct Makerspace door, across from Five Star Vietnamese side door, and ring the doorbell.
– Someone from the YWITT/YKST team will open the door, show you where to put your jacket. You will be asked to sign a Yukonstruct waiver form.
– You will be directed to the space where the event is taking place, offered food, and introduced to the rundown of the event.
– Event instructors and YWITT staff will demonstrate and oversee your safe use of the tools relevant to your project.
2. Is this event child friendly? No. This event is for folks 18 and older.
3. I don’t work in the trades, can I attend? Yes! This event is for tradespeople and non-tradespeople alike.
4. What are the expectations of me when I take part in a YWITT or Yukonstruct program?
