About Patti’s Social Innovation tour:
For more than a decade, we have seen crazy growth in hubs, innovation spaces, co-working, co-lab and maker spaces. They represent a new approach to community, innovation, collaboration and problem solving – often with a social impact purpose or outcome.
In a program designed by Dr. Suzanne de la Barre, PhD, Professor at Vancouver Island University (VIU), Patti and colleagues joined a one-day tour in Vancouver, BC of three innovative, collaborative and social impact spaces with very diverse models and impacts.
Patti will share highlights of those tours together with updates from Inuvik’s ACTMC – their Makerspace and their Arctic Inspiration Prize project and other developments since then.

About Stefan’s talk:

The BCTECH Summit is

  • at the forefront of tech developments and tech startups in Western Canada, with 5,000 delegates
  • offers four streams of concurrent expert panels, some of which I will feature during my brief talk. I’ve never witnessed such a concentration of tech executives.
  • surprisingly human-centric: The tech leaders are well aware that it will take their and our full attention to keep the machines serving humans and their values, and not the other way round.
