In this beginner-friendly, hands-on workshop, participants will learn the basics of knitting to create their own pair of knitted slippers.
The workshop will cover basic knitting techniques, using knitting tools correctly, troubleshooting common problems with stitches, and pattern-based knitting. The workshop is designed for knitting beginners, and is open to all levels!
This workshop will be hosted in Yukonstruct’s yard space, allowing participants to enjoy this experience under the beautiful Yukon summer sun, and all participants will get the option of a beer, provided by Yukon Brewing, or a non-alcoholic option to enjoy while they work.
Knitting needles, and yarn will be provided for all participants, with each participant taking home their project (or project in progress), with a set of beginners needles.
Makespace Under the Sun
Join us for a series of summer workshops under the sun at Yukonstruct’s Makespace! Come try your hand at something new, learn from Yukon makers and maybe enjoy a beer in the yard as you sew, craft, mend or make.
About the Instructor
Keala Banford is a local artisan based just outside of Whitehorse. She learned how to knit as a young child from her Dutch grandmother. Keala encourages all to learn to make their own clothing, be it by knitting, crocheting, or sewing! You may also have seen Keala’s work at the Arctic Winter Games, where she knitted the scarf worn by Michael J Fox!
