Having advised and advocated on matters of diversity, innovation, and strategy in a variety of previous roles, she is excited to explore interconnections and opportunities to advance Yukonstruct, its members, and the community.

Selene Vakharia
Selene Vakharia

Vice-President

Selene Vakharia has dedicated 15 years to helping businesses and organizations grow strategically with community-building planning, campaigns, marketing, and events. She is the co-founder and owner of SMRT POP UPS, a marketing and events company, and of SMRT WOMEN, an award-winning community for aspiring and working female entrepreneurs. Since 2016, Selene has collaborated with Yukonstruct to develop programs for entrepreneurs.

Kathie Szpajcher
Kathie Szpajcher

Treasurer

Katie has over 10 years of experience in internal audit, risk management, and financial accounting in a number of industries such as: non-profit, government, and power and utilities. She hold a Chartered Professional Accounting designation, and qualified as a Certified General Accountant in 2007. She loves playing softball, hiking and biking.

Erin Holm
Erin Holm

Director

Erin is the artist and founder of Den Designs. In addition to her entrepreneurial pursuits, she has been a marketing professional for over 15 years. Although she is fairly new to Yukon she is passionate about being part of and helping build community in the territory and has been lucky enough to have traveled and spent time in every Yukon community. She is also an active member of Yukonstruct, in particular the Makespace. In her spare time, Erin enjoys going mountain biking, hiking, camping, fishing, paddleboarding and snowboarding with her one-eyed, rescue pup and best bud Betty White.

Antoinette GreenOliph
Antoinette GreenOliph

Director

Antoinette GreenOliph, born in Tobago into a food loving family, has been a restauranteur since 2002 when she moved from Toronto to St Pierre Jolys, Manitoba. She opened her first restaurant, La Table de bonnes soeurs. From there she moved first to Dawson City and then to Whitehorse, Yukon, where she started Antoinette’s which serves its international cuisine with uniquely Caribbean-infused flavours. In 2018, Antoinette’s celebrated 10 years in Whitehorse with a series of events that highlighted her community mindedness as well as her love for ambitious culinary experiences no one expects to find North of 60.

Vernon Asp
Vernon Asp

Director

Raised in Mayo, Northern Tutchone by tradition, Vernon is of Tahltan ancestry and a member of the Cheona (Wolf) Clan. He works in media such as birch, red and yellow cedar, deer hide, brass, glass crow beads and leather. He carves with handmade, power and hand tools. Vernon is also an educator and mentor to many. He is currently involved with the Makespace community, and works out of one of the studio spaces.

Barrett has devoted nearly 40 years to empowering teams and organizations and leaders to be the best they can be—accessing their own unique wisdom and expertise and turning those insights into practical actions to achieve outcomes that are important to them. Today, Barrett brings his senior management and consulting experience in nearly 40 countries to our board of directors.

Director

Bob is a passionate Yukoner with many skills. He knows his stuff in the wood shop and always looks forward to sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm for building.

Antonio Zedda

Director

Antonio Zedda has over 25 years experience planning, designing and developing buildings across Canada’s North. He is a partner in the Whitehorse, Yukon based design and planning firm of Kobayashi + Zedda. He has been the principal in charge of numerous government and private sector led multi-family residential, educational, cultural and commercial building projects.

Lana Selbee
Lana Selbee

Executive Director

Lana is passionate about creativity, community and entrepreneurship. Her first startup experience was launching a retail boutique and community art gallery in Calgary, AB. Since then she has consulted for many startups, nonprofits and community organizations, helping them grow and support their members.

Torey Hampson
Torey Hampson

Operations Director

Torey studied Dialogue and Facilitation at Simon Fraser University and moved to Whitehorse recently to study social work! She is also trying to learn how to bake bread (well). She loves hiking and biking but her true passion is community engagement!

Rick spent ten years as a programmer, designer, and project manager at an indie game studio, working with a small team of artists and programmers on an engine built from scratch using nothing but C++, DirectX, and passion. His other passions include traditional woodworking, electronics, leather working, and chocolate making.

Ideation and Business Acceleration Director

Entrepreneur in Residence, William launched and owned technology and services companies in various jurisdictions from Hong Kong to Thailand, Canada and the United States, taking products through to market! He is now leading Launchspace, our new entrepreneurial support to foster business development and innovation in the North, including conferences, programs and a collective initiative that helps early-stage entrepreneurs in the Yukon take their ideas to the next level.

As a speaker, advocate, and multidisciplinary artist, Ashley is passionate about supporting others in their individual journeys. She has had speaking engagements for countless youth across Canada as well as a wide variety of audiences around the world. When Ashley’s not looking up travel destinations, she loves to paint, sew, and listen to stories.

She hopes to continue to develop her skills so she can be an asset to the operations team with focus on helping the community grow, one member at a time.

Tanya Van Valkenburg
Tanya Van Valkenburg

Bookkeeper

Not just our bookkeeper, Tanya also shares her in-depth knowledge of not-for-profit administration and management. Before becoming a self-employed bookkeeper, she was General Manager of Whitehorse’s Nakai Theatre. She is a maker too; she’s been designing and making jewellery for over 20 years.

Multidisciplinary artist and expert material scavenger, Annie is thrilled to be assisting the creative forces of Yukonstruct this summer! Annie is enthusiastic about reuse and alternative transportation, and can often be spotted walking, biking or longboarding between local music venues and waterfronts.

Jeramy Mattie
Jeramy Mattie

Operations Assistant

A local entrepreneur and maker, Jeramy is owner and head craftsman at Frozen Forge Alchemy. Jeramy has 15 years experience in industrial construction, is a red seal steamfitter/pipefitter ticket, a third year welder, and CWB welding supervisor. He also has a You Tube U degree in making, with a major in Need a Tool Make a Tool. When not in the Makespace, or his home shop carving jade, you can find him hiking a trail, paddling a river, or playing Dungeons and Dragons with his friends.
