Can you tell us a bit about yourself and what inspired your entrepreneurial journey?

My career path began 37 years ago at age 22 with a single course at Yukon College (Now Yukon University) after some encouragement from my Father in law who had taken the same course – “How to make gold nugget jewellery.” This modest first step eventually allowed me to be a stay at home Mom for six years and raise my children while working evenings in my home based studio. Once my youngest started school I opened my bricks-and-mortar business with a business partner. Our business at 106 Main Street in Whitehorse ran successfully for 26 years at the same location, but as he retail landscape shifted, I chose to close the physical storefront and pivot my established businesses to an online presence.

What’s the story behind your business idea or project, and what impact do you hope it will have?

I genuinely love what I do and I am planning on moving to an online presence, making wearable art and connecting with my lovely clientele.

What’s one challenge you’ve faced so far, and how are you tackling it?

Technology is a challenge….. finding resources to teach basic skills has been a challenge. I would prefer to simply make my art and not have to worry about marketing, social media, and keeping up with whatever is the latest way that people are communicating. However, if you want to get left behind – just keep doing what you are doing! I am learning slowly……

In line wit this year’s theme, “Invest in Her,” how do you think supporting women-led businesses fuels economic growth?

I think women face more barriers in business. By supporting women based businesses you are advancing equality and diversity. Women led businesses offer different perspectives, experiences, products, services, and niches in the economy thus leading to economic growth.

What’s next for your idea or project?

I have so many! Currently I have quite a stash of Yukon and Canadian Gemstones – so making pieces from those – for my online presence.

Instructing some jewellery making courses! Hopefully at Yukonstruct in the New Year.

If your business had a personality, how would you describe it in three words?

Creative, Trustworthy, Approachable.

Outside your business, what’s your go-to activity to recharge or have fun?

Walking, photography, paddling, playing hockey, cooking family dinner – depends on the season!

Which fictional character, movie, or celebrity best represents your entrepreneurial vibe?

No idea! AI suggested Dolly Parton and my friend suggested Poppy from The Trolls.

If you had to pitch your business in one sentence for a TikTok or Reel, what would the hook be?

Handcrafted wearable art that has a story to tell…..
