Introducing Alix, one of our newest Operations Assistants!

What’s your role at Yukonstruct?

I’m an Operations Assistant; I’m part of the team who assists folks at the front desk, keeps the space tidy, sets up for programming and events and generally helps ensure Yukonstruct runs smoothly!

What do you like most about Yukonstruct?

My favourite thing about Yukonstruct is definitely the community! Between the supportive staff team and our dynamic, friendly members, I get to spend my days with some truly wonderful people.

What skill or project are you most proud of?

I’m a circus performer! I got started a decade ago in Halifax, NS where I took a year-long professional program and worked with three different circus companies. I specialize in hula hoop and have also done human statues, juggling and aerial champagne service.

When you aren’t making things, what other interests take up your time?

I love board games, hiking, dancing and singing karaoke.

What advice do you have for other makers?

Getting started is the hardest part so I tap into my senses to make transitions easier. Changing workspaces (sight), playing music (sound), lighting incense or a candle (smell), brushing my teeth (taste) or changing clothes (touch) are all cues I use to get myself ready to create.

What do you want to build at Yukonstruct?

I’m excited to learn about sewing so I can make and adjust my own costumes!
