Meet the Makers is a series of interviews to help you get to know the people who are building our community. Lisa Preto is our new Community Outreach Manager.
1) What’s your role at Yukonstruct?
Hello everyone! I am thrilled to be part of the Yukonstruct team, as the Community Outreach Manager. I have recently moved back to Whitehorse from Haines Junction, and I am excited to have a role connecting with people in Yukon communities.
2) What do you like to make?
Though I am a carpenter and musician by trade, my current love is sewing with fur from our family trapline. I started off making ruffs and mitts just to stay warm on the trapline, and grew a small business.
3) What has been your favourite project so far?
The AWG pom poms! It was amazing to see so many volunteers involved in making them, and so many people getting to proudly wear Yukon fur.
4) What inspires you to make things?
Although I have enjoyed almost a decade of sewing late into the night, focused and undisturbed, I really get inspired to try new things when teaching and creating with other people. I am very enthusiastic and supportive of other people’s ideas, and love helping them come to life.
