Meet the Makers is a series of interviews to help you get to know the people who are building our makerspace. Wyatt Best is our new Makerspace Assistant. We’re excited to add his experience and talent to our team!

Wyatt, what do you like most about YuKonstruct/cospace being up and running?
I love that there is a community driven space where people can get together, work on projects, and learn new skills. It’s a fun, safe, and supportive environment that fosters creativity and has a lot to offer. It’s a great place to meet new people and become connected within the community.
What do you like to make?
I like to make furniture. My training is in traditional furniture and cabinet making. I gravitate towards mid-century designs, but I love the craftsmanship that goes into more traditional styles. I also love to make small little things like coasters, candle holders, cutting boards, etc. I’m looking forward to learning how to use the laser cutter to step up my coaster game
What are you working on now?
I am currently working on a pair of matching end tables for my apartment. I’m also starting to work on a bed, but that’s still in the design phase
What inspires you to make things?
Necessity is the mother of invention. I love being able to solve a problem by making something. Too short? Here’s a stool!
What advice do you have for other makers in the Yukon?
I would advise anyone who is creatively or technologically inclined to come check out the Yukonstruct facility. With a diverse range of programming and resources available there is a lot to be learned at Yukonstruct. Do yourself a favour and come hang out!
