Meet the Makers is a series of interviews to help you get to know the people who are building our makerspace.
James Stobbs is our new Makerspace Assistant. We’re excited to add his experience and talent to our team!

James, why did you join YuKonstruct?
I joined YuKonstruct so that I would be able improve my carpentry skills. I want to learn to TIG weld.

What inspires you to make things?
I usually make things that I have a need for and can’t find the item I want in a store that is worth what they want for it. An example is the storage box I built for my chainsaw and all its accompanying supplies (chaps, oil, wrenches and screwdrivers).

What has been your favourite project so far?
My favourite project so far is the repairs to the grandfather clock I made for my Grandma, the clock mechanism had not run in 3 years, I was able to take it apart, clean it up and get it running again, the clock was given to her and my grandfather in the late 1970’s for the work he had done to help his neighbour build his house and barn, so it meant a lot to my Grandma to have it up running again.

What are you working on now?
I currently have 2 projects on the go, I am building a new workbench for the house, I’m using a bunch of scraps of hardwood, and I am building a chess table for my brother, we found a set of chess pieces that were much larger then typical chess pieces, so we wouldn’t be able to buy a standard board wouldn’t be available.
