Meet the Makers is a series of interviews to help you get to know the people who are building our makerspace. YuKonstruct’s newest staff member Will has been busy lately cleaning up the facilities and implementing some safety strategies! Read on to find out what he likes about the makerspace.
Will, what’s your role at YuKonstruct?
My role at YuKonstruct is a short term contract position that involves upgrading the facilities to make for a safer and more efficient work space.
How did you get involved with YuKonstruct?
I first heard about YuKonstruct when I was playing in the band at the grand opening party. As a carpenter and woodworker, I saw the space as an amazing opportunity to network with other trades people and get started on projects.
Why should people become YuKonstruct members?
I think people should become members because it’s important to support community initiatives, and the networking possibilities can do a lot for generating creative ideas.
What has been your favourite project so far?
Closet organizers! I made them for a young couple that was expecting their first baby.
What are you working on right now?
I am working on a spindle turning project: a set of balusters on the lathe. There are endless projects to be had at YuKonstruct and I especially like working in the wood shop.
What advice do you have for other makers in the Yukon?
Don’t be shy! Come check out YuKonstruct, meet makers and share your project ideas.
